How to Password Protect Microsoft Word 2003
Many people are unaware that you can password protect Microsoft Word 2003 document. If you need to protect a document, Microsft Word 2003 can assist you in protecting your document's security.
This tutorial describes how to password protect a Microsoft Word 2003 document.
Step 1: First open the document you want to protect or encrypt. Select the "Tools" menu item, then click the "Options…" item.

Step 2: Click on the "Security" tab.

The "Security" tab shows different file security settings:
1. Password to open: if you want to control who can view the content enter a password here.

2. Password to modify: If you want to control who can modify a document enter a password here. Be suer it's different from your "Password to Open".

If you want to use higher level of encryption algorithms, click "Advanced" button, choose an encryption setting type you want in the list, and then Click "OK" button.

Please note: It’s very important to use higher level of encryption algorithms. The default encryption algorithms is "Office 97/2000 Compatible". This is a CSP with public known security issues. Step 3: In the "Password to open" or "Password to modify" box, type a password, and then Click "OK" button.

Step 4: In the "Confirm Password" dialog, type the password again. Click "OK" button.

Step 5: Select the "File" menu item, then click the "Save" item.

Note: If you forgot or lost Word password, you have to recover word password with word password recovery tool.
